The Play: In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. It is set in the Dominican-American neighbourhood of Washington Heights in New York City. It’s a story about the dreams, desires, heartaches and disappointments of this close-knit community. The play, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, was nominated for 13 Tony Awards in 2008, winning four including best musical. The album, featuring the score, also won a Grammy for best musical show album.
The Show: Presented by the South secondary school’s musical theatre program, directed by Kevin Wild.
