Vaughn Martin (’07) was drafted early in the 4th round of the NFL draft, held on April 26th by the San Diego Chargers. He becomes the first ever South grad to be drafted by an NFL team, and the highest ever drafted UWO Mustang football player.

According to the Chargers’ website, the reason they took him so early in the 4th round (meaning they expect him to crack their line-up), is because he was also being hotly pursued by Indianapolis, Carolina, and Cleveland.

Vaughn was a two-way senior player for the Lions in 2005 and 2006 and credits the mentoring of South coaches Chris Marcus and Mike Stenning in helping him on his journey, both as a football player and as a student.

We wish him all the very best in his quest to become a professional football player in the NFL.
